Strumenta and Metadev Join Forces to Modernize Legacy Software
A collaboration combining Strumenta’s expertise in code analysis, extraction, and transformation with Metadev’s capabilities in modeling, artificial intelligence, and code generation from models.
Torino/Seville, May 14, 2026 — Strumenta S.r.l. and Metadev S.L. have reached a collaboration agreement to offer a joint approach to Modernizing Legacy Software.
The proposal addresses a challenge many organizations face: modernizing critical systems built on legacy technologies without losing the business knowledge embedded in them.
Strumenta brings extensive experience in code analysis, processing, and software modernization. It has spent years building tools to parse, extract models, analyze, and migrate code across languages including RPG, COBOL, VB, PL/1, CL, and various SQL dialects. Metadev contributes expertise in graphical web modeling tools, AI integration, and high-quality code generation targeting technologies such as .NET, Java, Angular, relational databases, and MongoDB.
Together, these two capabilities cover the two key phases of any modernization effort: understanding the existing system and building a renewed version from a more structured representation of it.
This joint approach combines reverse engineering and forward engineering. Knowledge is first extracted from the existing codebase, then represented as models that can be refactored, transformed, and used as the foundation for the modernized system.
This is particularly relevant for large codebases, where the challenge goes beyond migrating technology and requires understanding what the system actually does, preserving the business logic, and enabling its future evolution with greater control.
Interoperability between the two companies’ solutions is grounded in their shared adoption of LionWeb. Under the agreement, LionWeb models serve as the intermediate representation of knowledge extracted from legacy code, which can then be processed and transformed to produce the modernized system.
Within this approach, Metadev’s Structura plays a central role in model representation, refactoring, with or without AI, and generating code designed to ensure compliance by design.
Together, Strumenta and Metadev are bringing to market a joint offering for modernization projects that demand deep analysis of existing software, structured model representation, and the generation of new systems built on that foundation.
